A very nice tie by Drake’s London. It’s lambswool.

Well you can take it from Ryan Gosling’s character in Crazy Stupid Love. Gosling’s character is what I see as the ideal Modern Gentleman (fashionably speaking). G the Gentleman also did an ask like this.
If you want me to break it down, here’s how it is. Basically you only need a few items to really build up your wardrobe.
Tops
Tee shirt: Always have to have a tee shirt no matter what. Fitted V necks are in and also works really well with button up shirts. With the V neck you can have simple and casual, while spicing up from normal crew necks. Try not to get it too loose, it makes your appearance quite slacker-ish; or too tight, you should know why.
(note: I would recommend the V for the upcoming Spring. You can unbutton your button up a little and have some chest showing, with the illusion of wearing no shirt. Women dig this look.)
Button Up: The classic “formal/business shirt”. I am very big with button ups, you have to understand that man can either be on point with button ups, or not even close. First off. If it’s loose you lose. That’s sums up most of it. your button up shirt should be fitted to the point where it almost hugs you, but enough room for mobility and breathing. Colors should be subtle. Don’t go crazy on green or orange. Work: White, Light Blue, occasionally Pink, also stripes. Casual: Anything color, try patterns such as plaid or gingham
Josh”s recommendation: White and blue for work. Pink for Friday nights. Black for Saturday nights.
(Note: Black shirts are very hard to pull off without looking ridiculous. Try to have nothing else black on black. It’s almost fail when you wear it. Also Don’t contrast with White Tie Black shirt.)
(Note for Men with HEIGHT ISSUES): Stripes make you look TALLER!
Topcoat: A man must always have a top coat for rain or snow or terrible weather. There are two types. The Pea Coat (At or above the package) and the Trench Coat (Below the package). The colors can vary and the quality can vary from Wool (Snow) to Grarbardine (Rain). For more help on the top coat.
Josh’s Colors: The Major Four: Gray, Black, Navy, Khaki.
Jacket: There are many types of jackets you can choose from. For sports jackets and blazers get a solid color. Again go with The Major Four. Gray and Navy are very business, while black is for formal events, finally khaki is for vacations and also business. Casual jackets can go from Leather to Cotton. Also, what I am see alot is the ticket pocket for blazers. The ticket pocket is an additional pocket on the outside of the blazer to the right. It was created for businessmen to put in their train tickets. For leather get something collared for a more sophisticated look or uncollared for a modern and youthful look. Varsity jackets are also in, you can grab one of those. And make sure you boys find yourself a decent tailor. The key to every outfit is fit. There is no outfit without fit!
Bottoms
Jeans: Always have a pair of Black or Blue jeans. Either Slim straight or Skinny. Nothing super skinny or bootcut. For Jeans you have to have comfort so be picky. Also, understand the jeans should have 5 pockets, no more no less. (Two rear pockets, Two front pockets, and a small key pocket on the right pocket).
Chinos: The bridge between Casual and Business is the Chino. Neither Dress pants nor Jeans. It should come in two colors, Navy or Khaki. It should also be fitted to your body so that the thighs are slightly hugged and the calves are slightly loose yet you can still feel a small hug. NO CARGO!
Slacks: Slacks are in the same category with the Major Four. They should be well tapered to show a silhouette of your legs. Anything baggy ruins the pants.
Shorts: According the Great Tom For “Shorts are made for the Beach and Tennis, no where else”. This is true, unless you live in San Diego, California. I rarely wear shorts but I do own a pair. Aim for Khaki shorts, they should be fitted but not too skinny. The length of the shorts should rest right on or below the knee cap. And no higher than one’s underpants…(come on now) NO CARGO!
Accessories
Sunglasses: Ray Bans are not the only type of Sunglasses brand, and Wayfarers are not the only type of style! Aviators can fit on any face, Wayfarers are for the city and mall hunters, Clubmasters are rounded and should be worn with a face that is Narrow. Also try to look up the brand Persol Eyewear over Ray Bans.
Ties: Click if you want to find out about ties!
Bowties: They are for formal wear or enlightening an outfit. They should not be over worn. Don’t be a Bop!
The Pocket Square: Every man should at least own a white pocket square. The pocket square enhances the look of a blazer/sport jacket. I never leave my blazer without it.
Bags: There are several types depending on what you are doing.
Messenger: School/Work/Study
Duffle: Travel
Briefcase: Work (strictly)

This little boy might not look happy but his outfit make me very happy. While I was in new york this past summer I noticed that the children of NYC are usually better dressed than there parents. If I ever have a child I would definitely invest in dressing him in fabulous clothing, But I wouldn’t forget about myself !
